RadTech-The Association for UV and EB Technologies Announces the formation of a new Committee devoted to fast emerging UV LED technology. The group’s first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 28 in Redondo Beach, CA, co-located with the industry trade event.

What’s the Score? A Method for Quantitative Estimation of Energy Use and Emission Reductions for UV/EB Curing

A number of case studies have demonstrated that replacement of thermally cured solvent or waterborne inks, coatings and adhesives with ultraviolet (UV)/ electron beam (EB) curing systems can not only reduce uncontrolled volatile organic compound (VOC) release, but can also reduce energy demand and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 90 percent.

Home Depot Partner Launches Site-Cured UV Finish Service

N-Hance Revolutionary Wood Renewal (Logan, Utah), which operates kiosks within 1,400 Home Depot locations across the U.S., in November launched a site-cured wood floor finishing service dubbed “Light Speed.”

N-Hance has labeled the process a “premium wood refinishing product” that “instantly dries and cures wood surfaces.” In marketing the service, N-Hance compares its UV-cured finish with traditional wood finishes “that can take up to two weeks to dry.” What’s more, N-Hance says Light Speed only costs $1 more per square foot than conventional finish, and that UV-cured finish is the “the most durable finish with the highest wear index and highest scratch resistance.”

UV-Curable Plastic Makes Self-Healing Sensor Possible

Sensors that measure the strain or forces exerted on materials in everything from airplanes to civil infrastructure have one vital flaw; they can break under stress rendering themselves useless but not necessarily the material they were monitoring. Researchers from North Carolina State University have overcome this by designing a sensor that can measure strain in structural materials and is capable of healing itself, allowing for continued collection of data that can help determine structural safety in the wake of earthquakes, explosions, or other unexpected events.
