Back in 2005, one of the manufacturers of UV cure primer received the coveted Presidential Green Chemistry Award from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for developing the eco-efficient UV-curable primer. Using UV cure paint finishes has less damaging impact to the environment when compared to conventional paints. Generally, UV cure paints contain lower volumes of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). During curing, less energy is consumed to achieve paint curing because UV lamps use less energy than gas-fired paint bake ovens. There is less waste paint to be disposed of because UV paint products are sprayable as packaged so no excess paint is mixed and then tossed out. Spray equipment needs less frequent cleaning because the product will not dry or harden without the presence of light. UV cure primers are also durable, corrosion resisting, and have an extended shelf life when properly stored. 210 nature
